Prime Minister Francisco Carvalho Inaugurates Paved Roads in Levada and Achada Costa in São Lourenço dos Órgãos
Prime Minister Francisco Carvalho presided over, on the afternoon of Thursday, August 6, the inauguration ceremony for the new paved roads in the towns of Levada and Achada Costa, in the municipality of São Lourenço dos Órgãos, as part of an initiative aimed at improving mobility, enhancing road safety, and boosting the region’s socioeconomic development.
The project involved paving approximately 800 meters of road in the town of Levada and one kilometer in Achada Costa, and was fully funded with the São Lourenço dos Órgãos City Council’s own resources, under the leadership of Mayor Euclides Cabral.
The Head of Government took the floor to congratulate the mayor on the commitment and ability to get things done demonstrated in carrying out the projects, highlighting the challenges municipalities face in mobilizing resources and meeting the needs of their communities.
“I would like to congratulate the mayor, Euclides Cabral, for the work he has done. I know from personal experience the difficulties involved in carrying out projects of this nature. It takes creativity, dedication, courage, and a strong commitment to the people to turn projects into reality. These two projects are a reflection of serious and responsible work,” stated Francisco Carvalho.
The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to reaffirm the Executive Branch’s commitment to local government, ensuring a close relationship and institutional cooperation with all municipal councils across the country.
“We will have a government that is friendly toward all municipal councils. We will work with all municipalities, regardless of their political affiliation, because all councils belong to the Cape Verdean people and deserve the government’s support to meet the aspirations of their communities,” he reiterated.
The new access roads represent a significant improvement for the communities of Levada and Achada Costa, providing greater comfort and safety for the movement of people and goods, as well as creating better conditions for the development of local economic and social activities.
According to Mayor Euclides Cabral, these infrastructure projects are part of a broader vision for development and land-use planning, contributing to better connectivity between the municipality’s various localities and to the realization of the region’s potential.
Visibly pleased, Francisco Carvalho emphasized the positive impact the new roads will have on residents’ lives, reiterating that investments of this nature are essential for promoting territorial cohesion, improving citizens’ quality of life, and creating new development opportunities for the interior of the island of Santiago.
